Simplifying CompTIA Support Commercial PC Courses
CompTIA A + has a total of two exams and sections to study, and you need to pass both of them for qualification purposes. CompTIA A+ training programs teach diagnostic techniques and fault-finding - via hands on and remote access, alongside learning to build, repair and fix and having knowledge of antistatic conditions. You might also choose to consider adding Network+ training to your A+ as you'll then be in a position to take care of computer networks, and have a more responsible working role.
Qualifications from the commercial sector are now, without a doubt, taking over from the more academic tracks into the industry - but why should this be? Industry is of the opinion that for an understanding of the relevant skills, certified accreditation from companies such as Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA is closer to the mark commercially - for much less time and money. Higher education courses, for instance, clog up the training with vast amounts of loosely associated study - with much too broad a syllabus. Students are then prevented from understanding the specific essentials in enough depth.
Assuming a company is aware what they're looking for, then all they have to do is advertise for a person with the appropriate exam numbers. The syllabuses are all based on the same criteria and can't change from one establishment to the next (as academic syllabuses often do).
Don't get hung-up, like so many people do, on the certification itself. Training is not an end in itself; this is about employment. You need to remain focused on where you want to go. Students often train for a single year but end up doing the job for 20 years. Don't make the mistake of finding what seems like a very 'interesting' program and then spend decades in a job you hate!
It's a good idea to understand the exact expectations industry will have. What certifications they will want you to have and in what way you can gain some industry experience. Spend some time thinking about how far you wish to build your skill-set as it will affect your choice of exams. It's worth seeking help from a professional that can explain the market you've chosen, and is able to give you 'A typical day in the life of' type of explanation for each job considered. These things are very important as you'll need to know if you're barking up the wrong tree.
