Black Suits And Other Colors For Men’s Suits

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

When it comes to suits, most men have no idea what does and doesn’t look good - so how do they decide what color to choose? Perhaps fortunately, the vast majority of suits are made in only three colors: Black, Dark Grey, and Dark Blue.

Black is the most preferred shade, be it work place or a place of prayer. But, when worn with the appropriate shirt, one may appear unbelievably immaculate and modern in a party or a get together.

Dark Grey is best worn as a business suit as it creates an air of authority. This suit will be flattered by almost any color shirt.

If you’re looking to blend in with a crowd, Dark (Navy) Blue suits are your best bet. The color is seen as fairly “average”, making it acceptable for nearly any occasion. However, if you’re someone with skin on the more pale side, you’ll want to wear a darker colored shirt.

Other shades. Brown is least preferred suit in business atmospheres. Men do not mind wearing brown suits for social occasions accompanied by tweed jackets.

White may look absolutely stunning but the occasion has to be proper (like Tom Hanks in the film “Big”). But, the exact definition of “the occasion has to be proper” is difficult to elaborate or laid stress on. Hence give a proper though. In any case, a white suit has its constraints in day to day use.

Lighter Grey suits are best worn in warmer climates or in the summertime. Looks great with almost any pastel shirt, unless you are reasonably fair skinned, in which case something slightly bolder should be considered.

You have to consider a number of aspects before choosing a color. Consider the timing of the suit, whether it is official or social. Does it compliment your skin, does it set you apart or allows you to merge in the crowd?

You had better remember, irrespective of what shade suit you want, you have to take pride in your selection. Looking good makes you feel confident. But to feel good you have to be told you look good. Hence, give a thought to taking someone along with you for a straightforward impression. When I wanted to purchase a suit, I asked my wife to accompany me. No sooner did I try a suit I wanted to purchase, she immediately REALIZED it was a good selection. Try it. It should be just the right place to commence.
